Did you know that in the United States alone, we waste 6 billion pounds of produce every year? This alarming statistic, paired with the fact that billions of people around the world don't have enough to eat, is enough to inspire action! Here are 5 simple steps you can take today to start reducing your food waste: 1. Buy what you need. By planning your meals in advance of your trip to the grocery store you can make sure you only buy the produce you'll use before it goes bad. 2. Make a stir-fry. It's a great way to use a bunch of vegetables while they are ripe and ready to use. Serve over brown rice for a delicious meal. 3. Save leftovers. When you eat out and can't finish your meal, ask for a takeout box so you can enjoy the rest of your meal the next day. 4. Compost. Instead of putting your vegetable peels in the garbage, start composting in your yard or apartment. You'll enrich the soil and reduce the waste sent to landfills. 5. Volunteer.
