“Eaters must understand that eating takes place inescapably in the world, that it is inescapably an agricultural act, and how we eat determines, to a considerable extent, how the world is used.” As we enter into the bounty of the summer harvest, I hope you will take some time to consider where your food comes from - and how the world is used to produce it. In our fast-paced lives it is easy to overlook the source of our meals, separating the act of eating from the production of food. What we consume has an impact on people and the planet - remembering this allows us to live our values and make choices that align with our desire to make the world a better place. I hope you will find ways to eat food grown close to home - maybe in a windowsill or backyard garden or from your local farmer's market. Not sure where to start? Check out Local Harvest for local farms, markets, and cooperatives. Enjoy this bountiful season!!
